What Is the CrossFit Open and Why You Should Get Involved in 2026
Not sure what the CrossFit Open is or whether it is for you? Here is what the CrossFit Open 2026 involves, how we are running it, and why everyone should get involved.

February 9, 2026
Every year around February, the same questions come up in the gym.
What is the CrossFit Open
Is it only for really fit people
Am I ready to do it
If you have ever thought that the Open might not be for you, this blog is for you.
What Is the CrossFit Open?
The CrossFit Open is a worldwide fitness event that runs for three weeks.
Each week, one workout is released. You complete it in your gym, submit your score online, and that is it.
You are not expected to be competitive.
You are not expected to be perfect.
You are not expected to do movements you are not ready for.
Every workout has scaled options so anyone can take part safely, regardless of age, experience, or fitness level.
For most people, the CrossFit Open is not about competing against others. It is about turning up, taking part, and being part of something bigger than your normal training week.
How the CrossFit Open Works at Southtons Fitness
This year, we are running the CrossFit Open as part of our Friday classes, finishing the day with Friday Night Lights as a fun evening event.
We are also running an intramural Open with two teams.
Red Team and Blue Team.
The focus is inclusion, support, and enjoyment. Not pressure.
Each week has a theme to keep things light and social.
Week one is team colours
Week two is movie themed
Week three is twin day where you match with a training partner
The aim is simple. Get everyone involved and enjoying the experience together.
Common Worries About the CrossFit Open
Almost everyone who is unsure about signing up says the same things.
They worry about movements they cannot do yet
They worry about being judged
They worry about finishing last
They worry they are not fit enough
Every year, the members who are most nervous beforehand are the ones who are happiest they took part.
The atmosphere is supportive. Coaches and members cheer each other on. Firsts are celebrated properly. First pull ups, first box jumps, first Open workout completed.
No one cares where you finish. People care that you showed up.
Why Everyone Should Get Involved in the CrossFit Open
February is where motivation often drops off. The CrossFit Open gives people a short term focus and a reason to keep training consistently.
It helps people show up more regularly
It builds confidence in their ability
It shows what they are capable of when they commit
It also brings the gym together in a way that normal training weeks do not. There is a shared energy, shared effort, and shared support that lifts everyone.
Myself and the entire coaching team will be taking part this year. We will be doing the workouts, judging, coaching, and supporting throughout. We are fully in it with you.
Final Thought
You do not need to be ready to do the CrossFit Open. You get ready by taking part.
If you have ever thought about doing it, this is the year. Back yourself, get involved, and enjoy the experience.
